About Under Braced Jib Cranes
Our Jib cranes are a quality, robust and safe piece of lifting equipment at affordable prices; its no wonder many of our customer come back for more. Well tried, tested and trusted, we have been manufacturing these swing jib cranes for many years with a design that has stood the test of time. More recently their specifications have been re-calculated professionally in order to comply to Euro code standards which include BS EN 1991-3; 2006: BS EN 1993-6; 2007 & BS 2853; 2011.
Under Braced Swing Jib Sizes and Capacity Options
Your first option is to decide on the lifting capacity which will best suit your lifting needs. Choose from 125kg, 250kg, 500kg or 1000kg. If the majority of your loads come close to the maximum stated SWL then it would be a good idea to go up to the next capacity.
Maximum lifting heights to the underside of the beam/arm can be your choice up to a maximum 5 metres. This does not take into consideration any additional lifting equipment such as a trolley and hoist set up. So don’t forget to factor this in. Also bear in mind the overall physical height is bigger than the under beam height so ensure you have the ceiling height.
The beam span/radius is the next consideration to think about. Its length will determine the radius or arc of slew – your working area. We can make the span anything up to 5 metres, however this is not the available working length (the distance a beam trolley can travel over the beam) due to the under bracing and end stop. See the specifications for more clarification.
Don’t forget to take into account the total size including the column and floor plate to ensure it will fit into the space required.
Optional Additions to Enhance a Jib Crane
The slewing/rotation range of our jibs is typically 270 degrees from the centre of the king pin holding the jib arm. Think of the position of the hands at 2:55 on a clock; the space between the hands passing through the 6 position will be approximately 270 degrees or ¾ of the full 360 degrees. If you don’t need the maximum slew available then we can add slew stops so the arm will only rotate within the set area. This is ideal for specific tasks and when a larger rotation may cause it to make contact with another obstacle.
Other additions to consider include a catenary system; these hold power cables out of the path of travelling parts thus providing optimum safety. Power isolators and knockout boxes are other good safety options. Obviously you won’t need these options if you choose manual equipment.
If you need a trolley to anchor a hoist to we can supply push travel and powered options to easily travel to and fro across the beam. When it comes to the lifting hoist we have an abundance of choice. Options include our best selling Delta electric hoist or chain block as well as similar manual or electric hoists from top brands like Yale, Viper, Gis, Sthal, Liftket,GT, Demag and more.
Other Considerations
Under braced jib cranes are probably more popular than over braced varieties, however if you need maximum travel over the beam then over bracing is the better option as there are no braces on the lower edge of the beam to hinder movement. So to sum up, under braced provide maximum height of lift whilst over braced provides maximum beam travel.
